Rachel Gough | Pastor

Reverend Rachel Gough and her family moved to Monroe from Seattle in 2013 with the intention of counter-culturally staying put for the rest of their lives. She loves Monroe Covenant Church—this small church with a big heart that feels like family—because it is deeply committed to fostering shalom in the community and helping Monroe become a place where all people can flourish. Rev. Rachel holds a degree in history and journalism from Hillsdale College, completed a certificate program called Leadership in the New Parish in 2017 at The Seattle School of Theology & Psychology, earned a Master of Divinity degree in 2022 from Fuller Theological Seminary, and was Ordained to Word and Sacrament in the Covenant Church in 2023. She has participated in the Covenant’s Antiracism Discipleship Pathway as well as two of the Covenant’s immersive discipleship opportunities: Sankofa, the four-day Civil Rights Movement bus pilgrimage through the South, and Weaving Justice & Peace in a Wounded Land, an Indigenous learning experience at Eloheh Farm in Oregon. She has written for several publications over the years, most recently The Covenant Home Altar and The Covenant Companion. When she is not studying, writing, preparing a sermon, leading a prayer meeting, or spending time with her artist husband, Bryan, her daughter, Amelia, or her son, John, you can find her reading mystery novels, camping with friends, or eating delicious food, often all at once.

I  was a Covenant MK born in BC, Canada,  grew up in Connecticut, Brussels, a number of hamlets and cities in DR Congo, and then worked in the the US, Europe and Congo before marrying Dick Anderson in Kinshasa, DRC in 1973. We returned to the NW and bought 5 acres between Monroe and Duvall in April 1975.  The Monroe Covenant church lured me into church through music, and it’s been our home church ever since. I am thankful to be part of a faith community that has remained constant through our coming and goings over the years. It has taught me so much about faith, family---and the joy of belonging by choice because of Him who loved us first.  I’m still connected with Congo through ACT for Congo, the work we started to support great Congolese initiatives.
